The George

Hollybush Road,, Bridgnorth

Originally a coaching inn, the George became the main Bridgnorth hotel when the Severn Valley Railway opened in 1842. This railway is a heritage service of 16 miles which for the most part uses steam engines and is the sixth-longest standard gauge railway in the United Kingdom. The George has an interesting shape and is built into a hillside. A previous proprietor reported being in the lounge bar with a friend when they both saw a shadowy figure standing behind the bar. The friend felt sudden intense heat throughout his body with no apparent cause. The hauntings aren’t always seen as one of the ghosts leaves behind the scent of sweet, expensive perfume and strange sounds including the click of old-fashioned light switches can be heard.
