The Blue Boar

Mill Street, Ludlow, Shropshire

The name of the pub is a heraldic reference to the Earl of Oxford and from the Battle of Bosworth in 1485. For many years, it haunted by the ghost of a man who had been connected with Ludlow Castle. That man is supposedly the Officer of the Tower. When observers have perceived his phantom on infrequent occasions, he has been wearing a blue tunic with brightly polished silver buttons. There are four other ghosts here; a Cavalier officer from the English Civil War, an old woman dressed in a long, black, Victorian style dress and bonnet, a man in a 1930s style suit smoking a pipe and a girl of about 15 years of age. Many think that this girl died from illness, possibly diphtheria, many years ago, whilst she was living and working at the Blue Boar. For those who think of time flying, occasionally the hands on one ancient clock in the bar have, observers saw, spinning around at great speed.
