It was taken by it completely. A former coaching inn, it has history from 1701. However, it is on the site of previously licensed premises. Legend has it that Nell Gwynne, mistress of Charles 2nd, lodged here in 1651 following the Battle of Worcester. At one time, called the Unicorn, it was burnt out in 1591, with many people lost their lives. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include apparitions and people shouting, with loud poundings on doors of empty rooms. Legend has it that they are the ghosts of those who died in the fire.
