Church Rd, Uffington, Shrewsbury, Shropshire, Market Drayton
A visiting beer drayman to this Second-grade early Victorian coaching inn saw a ghostly woman wearing a lacy blouse. However, she is only visible from the waist up. Many years ago, a cleaner died here through unrequited love. She had been jilted at the altar. She went back to the hotel where she died of a broken heart. The ghost of that cleaner has haunted the Corbet Arms since and usually manifests in a white lace blouse. A number of young men staying here have had their bedclothes stripped away by ghostly fingers. This might have been the work of the dead cleaner, or could have been a succubus, traced back in folklore to medieval legend. This was a female demon appearing in dreams, who takes the form of a human woman in order to seduce men, usually through sexual intercourse.
