Bridges Country Pub
Bridges, Ratlinghope, Shrewsbury, Shropshire
This pub was once called the Horseshoe Inn. The present building has a mixture of old grey painted brick. It has a Georgian appearance. Reports say it exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include the last Sin Eater of England, who died in 1906. A sin-eater attended the funerals of those who had died, unprepared to meet their maker. By eating bread and drinking ale, with by making a short speech above the grave, he took upon himself the sins of the deceased. Richard Munslow took on that quasi-religious position after losing three of his children in a whooping cough outbreak. He and his family are buried in Ratlinghope graveyard.
