The Wheatsheaf Inn
Main Road, Burn, Selby, North Yorkshire, Hambleton
An odd name for a village and it was Old English Byrne and meant a place cleared by burning. The Wheatsheaf exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a phantom pilot, possibly from the Second World War, who always appears on Mother’s Day. When he manifests, he is wearing a grey greatcoat and a forage cap. This suggests he was not commissioned, as he would be wearing a round peaked cap.
