This pub has a history from 1817.This pub name first appeared during the Peninsular War when Wellington captured Ciudad Rodrigo in 1812. Wellington then described it as the ‘key’ to Spain. Proprietors showed this on their signs as a British lion holding the key. The ghost that is frequently seen is on the top floor, with viewed from both inside the pub and outside from the street. Observers describe him as a tall man, with dark hair and wearing a black uniform style of jacket.
