The One Eyed Rat
51 Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire
Once this was the Lord Nelson, with caused quite a furore when it changed its name to the One Eyed Rat. It is an early Victorian pub in a row of similarly aged cottages. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a poacher from the 1940s called McDonald, with is recognisable by his suit of green tweed plus fours. When he appears, he is accompanied by the strong smell of cigarette smoke. The old police station, not far away, is also haunted by the ghost of a man who died there whilst in custody.
