Hare and Hounds
Burton Leonard, Harrogate, North Yorkshire
This village pub has been reputed to be haunted over many years. However, no one was ever sure what it was. There were reports of a child being involved in the mysterious activities. One night, the fire alarm went off in the middle of the night and the proprietor rushed downstairs, expecting to find mayhem and disaster. He opened the kitchen door and there was no fire, no smoke. However, the floor was covered in water from sprinklers. He mopped up the mess and, as he was going back to bed, heard a child laughing with glee. However, there was no child at the inn that night. The village name is Old English, burh-tun, a fortified farmstead.
