69-70 Allhallowgate, Ripon, North Yorkshire
A fine example of late Georgian and early Victorian style of building, the Golden Lion is on one of the oldest streets of this ancient city. A paranormal group investigated the workhouse, which had been first built in 1776, with closed in the early 1950s. They contacted the ghost of a man through an Ouija board, who said he had been an inmate in the 1890s. He regaled them with tales of how badly he had been treated and how much he had hated the place. There are also reports of the former local workhouse being haunted by a number of children, who were living here in the late 1800s.
