White Hart Inn

Wharfage, Ironbridge

With a pub name coinciding with the reign of Richard II in 1377, the White Hart is an 18th century former coaching inn which opened in the late 1700s. A strange and curious face appeared on the windows one day. The housekeeper described it as almost childlike with generally small features but a large chin. A picture that appeared in a local newspaper showed the likeness to Cornish inventor, Richard Trevithick was extraordinary. Trevithick had stayed at this pub during 1802 when installing a high-pressure steam engine of his design.
