Cock Hotel

148 Holyhead Road, Wellington

A former coaching inn built on the site of previously licensed premises it is now Grade II listed. It is now a collection of mostly invisible ghosts. On the front façade is the name Old Wrekin Tap that refers to the days when the long gone Wrekin Brewery owned it. Over the years, both employees and customers have seen strange figures appearing and then suddenly dissolving away. A wicked little ghost in the women’s lavatory pulls the chain then opens and closes the door behind them. However, it remains invisible. Hauntings often take the guise of odours, typically of flowers or strong perfumes. The Cock exhibits such ghostly manifestations including pipe tobacco in the beer cellars.
