King Charles II

13 Broad St, Ross-on-Wye, Herefordshire

There is the resonance of ghostly bells , reporters have heard, from the cellar of this 17th century pub. Barrels and kegs have been repositioned and price tags spirited away, never to be seen again. Pub-dogs have refused to stand anywhere near the cellar entrance, with are often seen pursuing unseen phantoms around one room. A photograph, taken at the pub during the 1970s, shows what appears to be a Victorian man holding a lamp in the cellar. He manifests as a plump man in a dark jacket, yellow waistcoat and receding hair. The woman who took this photograph had not noticed this figure standing in the beer cellar. She brought in this image for those interested to show how the cellar once appeared. This curious anomaly was pointed out to her by another customer. There have been numerous reports of apparitions and icy chills in the corridor above the cellar. Along the River Wye, the ghost of a gaunt old woman sails a small boat up river at dusk, loudly sobbing.
