Witnesses have seen the ghost of a young Victorian woman over the years at the inn. People have claimed that she died in unrequited love. Found down a winding country lane, on what is called the ‘old road’, there has been an inn here for almost 500 years. It took its name from the smugglers who had operated in this area.
