White Hart Hotel
Fore Street, Okehampton, Devon
This is a fascinating 17th century former coaching inn. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. These include a young boy called Peter and Residents. Employees have heard him calling out in the night ‘I am Peter’. During the day, witnesses see him as a phantom playing a weird game of hide-and-seek with children. He steals their toys. Children, questioned about him, say he is a nice little boy. However, is very often lonely. The White Hart Hotel was given official licence as Okehampton’s premier inn at the new Quarter Sessions when the town’s charter was granted in 1623. It has a fine portico of four pillars supporting a balcony.
