Book Haunted Inns and Hotels in Purbeck

The Scott Arms

West Street, Kingston, Wareham

Since the mid-19th century, an old woman said to be Granny Bartlett who previously ran the village shop has haunted this inn. Witnesses see her sitting in the front bar with her back to a window and drinking from an old-fashioned mug. Several individuals have woken during the night to find her standing in their bedroom at the Scott Arms. A photograph of this woman hangs in the bar. It is from this image that several witnesses recognised her. In the garden is an authentic-looking gravestone to ‘Michael Henchard, 1807 to 1852, The Mayor of Casterbridge.’
