The Castle Inn
Main Rd, West Lulworth, Wareham, Dorset
Just a short walk from the beauty spot of Lulworth Cove, this fine thatched, 16th century inn takes its name from the castle at Lulworth. It was home to the ghost of an old woman who had died in the garden. Since then, it has been modernised. However, the woman apparently takes exception to electrical equipment throughout the inn, with makes a point of turning it all off from time to time. There was another ghostly apparition, some years ago, when a proprietor saw a blue light dancing over his late wife’s possessions. This was only exorcised when he handed over these goods to his daughter, as had been expressed in his wife’s will. Although Napoleon never physically landed in England, witnesses have seen his ghost appear at Lulworth Cove, accompanied by another man. On the many occasions, witnesses see him to be studying a map whilst looking out to sea. He then carefully folds the map and disappears.
