Piece Farm Cottages, Piece, Redruth, Cornwall, Carnkie
At one time, the main customers here were the tin miners, a trade that has almost died out in Cornwall. Many years ago, the people used this pub as a courtroom for travelling magistrates. After brief trials, the authorities hanged a number of men outside. Authorities found these men guilty of a wide range of offences. Witnesses saw a number of black shapes about the inn with moaning sounds, said to be from some of these unfortunate men. The ghosts of three young village girls, believed to have died in mysterious circumstances, also haunt the Countryman. However, there is little more evidence or legend of what happened to them. It could be they died in an accident, with their bodies brought to this pub as was usual in country villages.
