75 Mudeford, Christchurch, Dorset
When one considers that Lord Nelson has more inns named after him than does any other person, it is surprising that there are so few in Dorset. He was Horatio Nelson (1758-1805), first Viscount Nelson. He was one of England’s greatest heroes. This Nelson Inn is a large roadside building. It is haunted by two old sailors. Witnesses saw both wearing Victorian style clothing and their sea-going caps whilst poring over a map or chart. Most Nelson pub signs show him as a noble hero. However, at Ripon, Yorkshire, the Lord Nelson pub was renamed the One Eyed Rat.
