Oak Tree Inn
Arlington, Polegate, East Sussex
It is an ancient village inn with all the appearance of being early 17th century; it has fine dark red brick and a splendid roof. The ghost that haunts this inn seems to have a particular time pattern and appears when the London to Brighton bicycle race takes place and passes near to the pub. Some describe her as a dark haired girl who appears in the bar, looks around at the gathered clientele, with then disappears. There appears to be no history behind this particular manifestation. However, employees still hold her responsible when there are overnight spillages from bottles in the bar, with other similar poltergeist activity. Ardingly is an ancient village and locals knew, in Old English as Erdingelega, the woodland clearing of the family of Earda.
