The Old Anchor Inn
1 St. Helens Wharf, Abingdon, Oxfordshire
Although the Old Anchor Inn now presents as an early Victorian red brick pub, it exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include a ghost from the 17th century. He was the youngest child ever executed in England in February 1629 from Abingdon Assizes. John Dean was only eight when authorities hanger him for arson on two houses. The judge, Mr. Justice Whitelock, found evidence of malice, revenge and cunning, with therefore did not recommend a reprieve for the boy. It is not clear if he had lived in the streets around the pub. However, Reports claim that to appear in the back room near the old fireplace. He is also in the graveyard of the nearby St Helen’s Church. Those who have witnessed his manifestation report he is dressed in ragged shirt and trousers. However, he has no shoes.
