The Saracens Head
Whielden St, Amersham, Buckinghamshire
After the various crusades, noble families who had taken part added the image of a Saracen’s head to their coat of arms. Innkeepers then adopted this as a pub name. People used it countrywide. It is an old coaching inn. There is much in the way of internal beaming with panelling. There are at least two ghosts at this pub. Both have, witnesses saw, on frequent occasions. The first is a servant girl dressed in a7th century style of clothing. The other, although it appears on a number of occasions, remains a mystery. No one can be sure whether it is male or female. A part of the Saracen’s Head comprises of old timbers off sailing ships.
