The Royal Oak Inn
Pook Lane, East Lavant
Two hundred years ago two smugglers murdered a Revenue man during a gunfight at this pub. They were tried for their wickedness and eventually dispatched to meet their maker. Since then witnesses have seen a tall, thin and bearded man walking through the ground floor in a grand and stately manner. This phantom has also been observed in two of the bedrooms together with the ghost of a small man with a full beard and old-fashioned clothing who witnesses say comes into their room and smiles at them. This former coaching inn has an old grandfather clock and as it chimed at uneven times the eldest son of a previous proprietor had a tinker to try and fix it. No reports on whether he was successful but later that night the boys were visited by a ghost.
