Highstead Lane, Petworth, West Sussex, Lickfold
An outstanding village inn, it was once the home of William de Lykfold in the 1330s. There is a house indwell at the pub, a female, that has been witnessed on many occasions by licensees. Customers of a psychic bent have reported hearing and sensing her in various parts of the inn. There have been several reports of ghosts in the men’s lavatory. Opened as an inn in the 15th century, it is of timber frame construction with herringbone brickwork and, in the large inglenook fireplace, is kitchen tools from many years ago.
