The George and Dragon
Church Lane, Shutford, Banbury, Oxfordshire
Parts of this inn have history from the 1300s and it is a traditional country pub with a log-burning stove and close to the parish church. The inglenook fireplace is large enough to have bench seats within it. The bar exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include several shadowy male figures wearing 17th century style black clothing and women in grey dresses and white close fitting hats or bonnets. Once, there was a tunnel to the local manor house used by escaping priests and religious adherents during times of persecution. Many of those captured were executed, so it may well be that the ghosts at this pub are victims from those parlous times.
