Grenville Place, Church Road, Bracknell, Berkshire
This ancient building was once two houses that made up the hamlet of Bracknell. In Tudor times, a Catholic family who hid many persecuted priests in the secret ‘priest-hole’. The ghosts of some of those who died whilst escaping now haunt the Old Manor. The apparition of one of these cowled figures, witnesses have seen numerous times around the building. He has been nicknamed ‘Old Fred’. Another old chap haunts the pub, a character who had been a regular in the early 1970s, named Bert. This ghost appeared shortly after Bert’s death. He was easy to recognise by his large portly frame, red-face, handlebar moustache, with always wearing a check cap. There are also good reports that a young girl haunts the Old Manor from the Victorian era.
