The White Hart
Old Reading Rd, Sherfield-on-Loddon, Hook, Hampshire, Sherfield on Loddon
The White Hart claims to be the fifth oldest licensed premises in England. The present building is 17th century, white painted on two storeys and inside are oak beams and brick fireplaces. A woman staying at this inn awoke one night feeling chilled. She saw a female phantom enter the room. This apparition smiled at her, re-arranged her own ghostly hairstyle, with then drifted away silently through a wall. Others, who have reported this phantom, describe her as wearing a grey dress with a wide buckled belt. Some believe this to be a former proprietor, who , an assailant took this person’s life, at the White Hart many years ago. The sound of an individual pulling himself along the upstairs corridor, accompanied by dragging chains, , reports claim, on many occasions. However, there is no apparent explanation.
