Caithness Road, Hylton Castle, Sunderland, Tyne and Wear
Someone called this pub after a ghost and poltergeist from years gone by at nearby Hylton Castle. At one point, the servants put out a green suit for the 'cold lad,' which had been removed. It was presumably worn to his comfort. Witnesses see him, running around the castle nude and from time to time, breaking the crockery, even appearing in this bar. Legend has it that when he manifests himself in the Cauld Lad, he wears a tattered old green cloak. Many believe it is the phantom of a stable groom Roger Skelton murdered by his master, Robert Hylton, some 500 years ago, with his battered body pitched down a well.
