The Beacon Hotel
Earsdon Rd, Whitley Bay, Tyne and Wear
Often pubs of this name are after a local hill on which fire beacons were built to warn of enemy invasions. At other times, it was because there was a lighthouse built nearby. For many years, it was suspected that the Beacon was haunted. However, confirmed when a customer saw the ghost of a woman sitting in the bar. This man said that either his father or uncle had , locals knew, this woman. She had worked as a barmaid here. One night, she had tripped in the bar .she had fallen down steps into the cellar, with died later from serious head injuries. Previous proprietors have reported that they have seen the ghost of the dead woman appearing, with she is dressed in 1930s style of clothing.
