The Albion Inn

Reay Street, Pelaw, Gateshead, Tyne and Wear

A favourite customer from the 1960s still makes his appearance preceded by the eerie tapping of his walking stick. Usually he is , locals knew, as Charlie or at other times ‘The Gentleman of Bill Quay’. Pelaw is next to Bill Quay, where the resident ghost lived during his lifetime. One proprietor came across him sitting at a table in the pub. Although she knew who it was, with that he was dead, she went and spoke to him. He simply looked up, smiled, with disappeared. Other proprietors have heard the tapping of his stick outside the pub, with the door opens. The stick carries on tapping across the bar floor. However, it then stops. No one is there.
