Mercure Darlington King's Hotel
9-12 Priestgate, Darlington
Over two centuries ago, Darlington was one of the major small towns on the coaching routes. In the 18th century, the parish council meetings were held here with the beer paid for from the council rates. The inn was enlarged recently and the works caused the reappearance of the ghost of Albert the Butler. A friendly enough fellow, he has a curious need to help guests with their packing and unpacking. Albert has even left a nightcap of whisky in guests’ rooms without it being ordered.
