This pub is At least 400 years old. Alexander Pope , people have claimed, to haunt this pub. Pope was a famous 18th century philosopher, translator and poet who had lived at Twickenham. Pope’s ghost apparently first appeared in 1830, when his skull was stolen from his grave. The reason for this very small man, only four feet six inches tall, haunting the Fox, is that the skull had gone to a collector who had lived in Church Street, Twickenham. Witnesses who have seen the apparition of Pope, say he is appears very small and angry looking with a curiously shaped hat on his head.
