The Bulls Head
Strand On The Green, Chiswick (W4), Greater London, Hounslow
An inn with history over four centuries, the riverside Bull’s Head exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include the ghost of Oliver Cromwell. Early in the English Civil War, he visited his sister, the Countess of Fauconberg, who lived at Chiswick. They had been eating at the Bull’s Head when a report came that Royalists were on their way to arrest him. He was obliged to escape by tunnel to an island in the Thames, now called Oliver’s Eyot. Over the years since there have been accounts of Cromwell appearing in the pub wearing Puritan style dress holding a tall hat and outside on the riverside pathway.
