Lord Nelson haunts many pubs and inns throughout England. However, this pub has a more curious connection. It exhibits ghostly manifestations. these include Nelson’s granddaughter. The girl was seriously injured when a horse bolted from the stables of the Queens Head and knocked her to the ground. She was carried to a draper’s shop, where she died and then taken to the Queens Head for the police to attend. Now she haunts the pub, wearing a grey skirt and white blouse. There is history of the Queens Arms to 1540 and Locals think to have been an ale house since 1344 The pub locals knew it as the Crown Inn until 1715, when it was changed to the Queens Head since Queen Anne changed horses here when riding between Hatfield and London. It has the fabulous Tudor frontage. Inside, it has low beamed ceilings. Early in the 20th century the licensee, Dawson Billows kept a bear in the stables, sometimes he , witnesses saw, taking it along the High Street for a walk.
