Book Haunted Inns and Hotels in Camden

King William IV

77 Hampstead High Street, Hampstead (NW3), Greater London, Camden

There are two ghosts at this pub, set in fashionable Hampstead. One is that of a young girl wearing a long white dress or nightgown with long hair in plaits, with a most unhappy face. witnesses see her, looking through the windows on the first floor. The account is that she committed suicide in a dental surgery that was opposite the pub. The other ghost , people have claimed, to have been a woman, Mrs Wyatt, who had lived at or near the pub, many years ago. An assailant took her life by her husband, with the body walled up in the cellars. She ensures that people are aware she is still in residence by loud wailing, shaking window frames, with pounding on internal doors during the night. The William is also London’s oldest gay pub. At nearby Hampstead Heath is the ghost of a 19th century Member of Parliament, who swallowed poison and died. His ghost is identified by his black top hat.
