The Maybush Inn
Farm Road, Great Oakley, Harwich, Essex
A lovely Oriental girl haunts this Essex pub. Witnesses see her, lurking. She looks inscrutable. A previous landlady held séances here over 40 years ago, with an 18 years old Chinese girl was her link with the hereafter or gone before. When the proprietor moved away, the conjured up teenager stayed on as a ghost. There are sounds of someone or something walking along passageways. Occasional sightings of her are reported. A séance is an attempt to communicate with spirits using a round table, a glass, and letters from the alphabet around the circumference. ‘Maybush’ is the more attractive name for the hawthorn, a thorny shrub.
