Ye Olde Red Lion
High Street, Much Hadham
Monks from a nearby priory and Bishop’s palace used to visit this inn through secret passages for a bit of out of Holy Orders drinking. One monk made a life size wooden carving of a winking, leering monk, which he left in the underground passage. Another monk, on his way back from drunken carousing, saw this head, with dropped dead with terror. His ghost is still in residence at Ye Old Red Lion. When seen, Reports claim that to have a most fearful and terrified look, upon his face.
